What caliber is perfect? In my opinion the best caliber for shooting out to +1000 yards is the big ol' .50 cal. The reasoning behind this choice is simple, it has a lot of powder and has a giant projectile. Although if you were going for practicality, I would choose the 300 Win Mag. The reason behind choosing it next was because of the fact that it is much cheaper per round than the .50 cal is. It is also an all around good round.

What size of bullet should you use?Like the title implies, what would be a good weight for the projectile? From the research I have done, i have found that the amount of grains the bullet should be is within 180-200 grains. That is, with the 300. With other rounds it may vary, although this should be a good weight for all larger calibers.

As stated before, in my research i have found that the 300 Win Mag is one of the most practical rounds to use. It is in this position because of even at 1000 yards, this round is still 111 fps faster than the speed of sound, which means that it can still be flying plenty fast at 1100 yards, even though it would be at a subsonic speed. Which, to be honest, they sell subsonic rounds. So why would it not be effective at subsonic speeds?
